A Saturday with Picasso and brownie cheesecake

In case you have been hiding under a rock or just don't care much about art (in which case this post may be slightly irrelevant to you), the Art Gallery NSW has outdone themselves by accessing the near-complete works of Picasso.

Thank you, Musee National Picasso (Paris), for undergoing renovations and delivering this sheer genius to Australian shores!

I suppose there is noting much that I could possibly dream of saying about Picasso that hasn't already been articulated better elsewhere. However, this was so much more than seeing one or two of his famed paintings without context - here, from the 1910s to 1960s, you get to experience his artistic journey with him. His growth from a young and obviously talented artist; the strength of his emerging creativity; the intense and detailed studies and sketches; his later works that burst full of bright and balanced colours.

There are truly no words, so you'll just have to go see it for yourself. Even if you're not a bonafide art lover (and think you know nothing about art and can't appreciate it), go anyway. Believe me, it does not take much to fall madly in love with the rich canvases. They read like an open book, full of depth and intricate meaning. Wandering through 10 galleries of Picasso is enough to convert anyone.

Some of my favourites below:

To cap off our post-museum high, we gathered the crew for a BBQ in the spring heat (oh Australia, your seasons are so f***ed up but I still love you).

There is nothing like having a very civilised and cultured afternoon before drowning in cheap bubbly, bashing up some beef patties and falling mouth-first into piles of the best damned raspberry-brownie-cheesecake-goodness ever. The purveyor of aforementioned dessert heaven says she gleaned her recipe from here - so go on, bake up one for yourself!

Rob in the naughty corner. Just kidding; he actually loves it on the blobby seat.
I made a fruit salad. Helen brought a chocolatey-brownie-cheesecake-raspberry puff of goodness. You can imagine which one everyone ate.
I am madly in love with Sydney's spring/summer so far. It just keeps getting better... x

Thanks for the nice post and photos, it has been hundreds (not say thousands) of times I have been watching Picasso's paintings and still I can not see anything beautiful... Am I ignorant?

Looks like a beautiful dessert! The perfect end to a great day by the look of it.
