Sydney on a Friday Night

I suppose this is officially my first 'real' night out about town in Sydney -- went great! It's starting to get chilly now, after a week of fantastic weather, so I suppose it's best to be warm and toasty in a club!

Met up with some friends and headed to Paddington Inn on Oxford St. Great place and cool crowd, although it seemed to cater a bit more to the matured white-collar workers!

Regardless, the music was great ('Rise Up' by Yves Le Rock and some other classics that cheered me up considerably!) and the drinks went down smooth. Not a bad place for pre-drinks and general noisy conversation.

Eventually we hopped over to Ruby Rabbit, also on Oxford St, to crash some girl's birthday party. It was a black and red lingerie theme, so I guess I was the only one out of the four of us that fit the bill!

As with any clubs, the bouncers were a bit iffy and had silly rules like 'Don't wait on the stairs.' At some point, someone told me I could not take my drink outside, took it away from me and I never saw it again. I definitely did not appreciate that...!

But lame bouncers aside, Ruby Rabbit was an interesting experience. The first level is devoid of anything but a tiny bar and a DJ console. It's all just industrial grey, with a small handful of people fanning about looking for something to do. Weirdest part? They don't serve sambuca or tequila shots -- what the hell kind of club is that?

Good vodka shots though. ;)

The second floor is fucking fantastic on the other hand. Once you make it past the VIP bouncer (not hard -- apparently you just need a Sharpie scribbled on your right wrist!), you enter this massive Victorian rabbit hole sort of place. Overstuffed embroidered couches, brass lights, long bar and a psychotic crowd. Thanks to the theme, there were plenty of men wandering around in lingerie and stockings (and thongs on their heads).

Probably the first and last time I will see a guy in lingerie and a bogan wig making out with a girl in a black suit....

Ruby Rabbit seems like the kind of place that you would go to just to be surrounded by quasi-attractive people and lush surroundings but to be fairly honest, the music wasn't that great and the bar service was pretty slow, but the crowd was much younger and crazier so all in all, still good fun.

Let's see what the rest of the weekend brings!
